An experience in an authentic ironworks milieu
Our Rooftop rooms are a haven of peace, where the modern world meets the spirit of the olden days. Sea containers raised on the roof of the old assembly hall offer a new kind of experience with an opening landscape window.
Our Rooftop rooms are designed with the nature traveller in mind. With the landscape windows in the rooms, we wanted to bring nature as close as possible to the interiors. In addition, sustainable development, versatility, and recycling have been in mind in the design of the rooms since the construction.
To achieve peace and be able to enjoy the surrounding milieu, we have left televisions out of these rooms. Lie on the bed or sit in an armchair, have a cup of tea, and enjoy the surrounding village life and harmony.
The hotel reception is located in our café, Café Mathildedal, and is open according to its opening hours or by appointment. Our hotel is located a stone's throw from Teijo National Park, half an hour's drive from the centre of Salo, one hour drive from Turku and two hours from Helsinki Airport.

The Rooftop rooms
Our Rooftop rooms are built in sea containers, which have been raised on the roof of the old assembly hall (1920) in the middle of the historic ironworks area. Each room has all modern comforts: a quality 160 cm wide double bed, private bathroom, heating / cooling, kettle with coffee and tea and a wall-sized opening landscape window. Breakfast is included in the hotel night, and it is served in our café according to the customer's schedule.

The story behind
The desire to develop the village of Mathildedal and increase the accommodation capacity brought Krista Gustafsson and Jari Lehtovaara together. They had the desire and vision to use the roof of the old assembly hall in some way. After months of planning, six reused sea containers were lifted onto the roof of the assembly hall in June 2022. These sea containers intended for seasonal accommodation create a unique feature for Mathildedal Ironworks.

Sustainability
We are involved in Visit Finland's Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) responsibility program. We are constantly developing the responsibility of our accommodation services and we take into account related matters as best we can.
In the Rooftop rooms, responsibility is realized by reusing old, decommissioned sea containers for this accommodation. In addition, the rooms have refillable shower soap-shampoo dispensers in the showers. The Laitila’s refreshments included in the price of the room are made using wind power and they are packed in glass bottles, that are recyclable in Finland. For those staying more than one night, we do intermediate cleaning and change towels at the guest's request. In this way, we aim to reduce the amount of laundry and water used for washing.
At breakfast, we aim to offer food produced nearby. All vegetables are at least produced in Finland, but during the summer we offer local vegetables. The eggs are also locally produced, and our bread is made from domestic flour.
For international visitors, we highlight the quality of tap water so that they prefer it over bottled water.
