Hotel & Café Mathildedal has been awarded the Good Travel Seal sustainability certification (Silver level, 2026). It is an internationally recognized mark of our commitment to sustainable tourism—in practice and in our daily operations, while respecting Mathildedal’s unique environment.
What is the Good Travel Seal?
The Good Travel Seal is an independent sustainability certification for tourism operators. It is based on concrete actions and an audit conducted by an external expert. The certification examines, among other things, environmental and climate work, waste and water management, staff well-being, and the preservation of local nature, culture, and community.
Silver Level – one step at a time toward improvement
The Silver Level indicates that sustainability is already a strong part of our operations and that we are systematically developing it further. The certification requires continuous monitoring and the development of sustainability measures.
How does sustainability show up in our daily lives?
At Hotel & Café Mathildedal, sustainability is reflected in our daily choices. In the kitchen, we prioritize local and seasonal ingredients. In the hotel rooms, we use Finnish natural cosmetics, and the hotel beds are made in Finland—choices that support local expertise and reduce our environmental impact.
It is important to us that people are well taken care of—both guests and staff. We invest in our staff’s well-being and fair working conditions, because a great guest experience starts with people.
At the same time, we cherish Mathildedal’s unique nature, the culture of the ironworks village, and the area’s peaceful atmosphere, so that they are preserved for future generations.
What does this mean for our guests?
As a guest at Hotel Mathildedal, you can be sure that:
- we operate with respect for nature and the environment
- we prioritize local and sustainable products
- we care for the well-being of our staff
- we cherish the spirit and culture of the Mathildedal ironworks village
For us, sustainability isn’t just a label or a campaign—it’s part of our everyday choices, big and small.
Looking Ahead
The Good Travel Seal is both a recognition of the work we’ve done and a guide for the future. We want to keep improving and make a visit to Mathildedal a positive experience for both people and the environment.
We also welcome our guests’ thoughts and suggestions on how we can operate even more responsibly.
