At Hotel & Café Mathildedal, we offer a blend of natural charm and everyday luxury. We are a small, family-owned hotel located in the Mathildedal Ironworks area in southern Salo. Our hotel and café are housed in the historic Karkaisimo building. Our hotel rooms are on the upper floor of the building and are decorated in a loft style that honors the area’s history. Our hotel has been offering hotel-level accommodations in Mathildedal for the longest time.
Our café, Café Mathildedal, is located on the ground floor of the hotel. The café always offers fresh cinnamon buns and other treats. Breakfast and lunch are served during the summer season. Our café is wonderfully bright thanks to its large windows. The windows offer a view of the waterwheel turning in the Matildanpuro stream.
In addition to our hotel and café, we have five hotel-quality rooftop rooms built from shipping containers on the roof of the old Assembly Hall. The panoramic windows of the rooftop rooms offer an atmospheric and serene view of the historic ironworks area. The rooftop rooms are perfect for those seeking a unique experience or a serene atmosphere.
Mathildedal Ironworks—the area where our facilities are located—was originally an ironworks built in the 1850s. Viktor Zebor Bremer, the owner of the Teijo ironworks, founded the Mathildedal ironworks in April 1852. At that time, Mathildedal was still known as Hummeldahl, but in 1853, Bremer changed the name to Mathildedal—meaning “Mathilda’s Valley”—in honor of his wife, Ottiliana Mathilda Rehbinder. The romantic history behind the village’s name is still reflected today, as many wedding receptions are held at the Ironworks!
In addition to its rich history, beautiful old buildings, and our own services, the Ironworks features several shops and a restaurant. We also offer meeting and group services. Our meeting room is located in the old Kankirauta warehouse. Despite the historic building, the meeting room is equipped with modern conference technology.
Welcome as our guest!
