This fall, there’s something out of the ordinary happening in Mathildedal.
As the evenings grow darker and the old walls of the ironworks begin to look a little different, the Mathildedal Ghost Museums open their doors once again.
For the sixth time, the Mathildedal Ironworks History Exhibition is transforming into a Ghost Museum. This year, the history of the old ironworks meets the forest, forest creatures, and old folk tales.
But this fall, it’s worth bringing the whole family to Mathildedal, as the area also has its very own ghostly world for younger visitors.

This year’s Ghost Museum takes you to the dark side of the forest.
The forest is full of old stories—forest spirits, ghosts, wanderers, and creatures whose existence has been passed down from generation to generation.
At the Mathildedal Ghost Museum, these stories collide with the old ironworks setting and a sense of dread.
This museum is genuinely scary and aimed specifically at older children, teens, and adults. If getting spooked, feeling the thrill, and soaking up the eerie atmosphere are part of your October experience, this is the place to go.
But what exactly awaits you in the forest?
We won’t tell you that in advance.
You’ll have to find out for yourself.
The Children’s Ghost Museum – Halloween for Little Ghosts
Little ghosts have their very own museum!
The Children’s Ghost Museum is located in the old coal warehouse in Mathildedal, which transforms into a playful Halloween world in the fall.
Here, the atmosphere is more about fun than actual horror. Pumpkins, ghosts, monsters, and just the right amount of spookiness—but without the scariness of the actual Ghost Museum.
The Children’s Ghost Museum has no sound effects, so it’s also well-suited for children who are sensitive to loud noises.
This is a place where you can marvel, laugh, get a little startled, and celebrate Halloween at your own pace.
Adults are, of course, welcome to join in!
Ghost Village takes place October 9–18.
Mathildedal’s fall Ghost Village really comes to life October 9–18, when the services at the Ironworks area are open daily.
Otherwise, the facilities are open on weekends in October, so you can visit Mathildedal even outside of the fall break.
Visit the Ghost Museum, stop by for coffee, explore the ironworks village, and maybe even stay the night.

Why go home when you can stay the night?
Hotel Mathildedal is open every day in October, so you can enjoy the atmosphere of Ghost Village even after dark.
If you’d like to bring the whole family, reservations for family rooms can be made by email. Other room reservations can be made through the hotel’s website.
And who knows—maybe there’s more to the old ironworks village at night than just hotel guests…
Café Mathildedal is open throughout October
It’s worth stopping for a cup of coffee during your ghost tour.
Café Mathildedal is open every day until the end of October.
From October 9–17, the café will have extended hours.
This way, you can start your ghost tour with a cup of coffee and end it the same way—if you dare to return to the café.
Ghost Nights—October 10 and 17
On these two Saturdays, Ghost Village won’t quiet down in the evening; the fun continues into the night.
October 10 and October 17 mark Ghost Nights.
On those days, the Ghost Museum will be open until as late as 11:00 p.m.
And most importantly…
The ghosts come to life.
During Ghost Nights, there are also living ghosts roaming the museum, so the evening atmosphere is completely different from what it is during the day.
The area’s services will also stay open later than usual, so Ghost Night is a great time to come to Mathildedal for a slightly more thrilling evening.
Zombie Walk – Oct. 17
On Saturday, Oct. 17, the Night of the Ghosts will take another twist.
The Mathildedal Zombie Walk will set off from Mathildedal Central Park.
Everyone is welcome to join the Zombie Walk, and of course, you’re encouraged to dress up as a zombie or in some other Halloween-themed costume.
So dig out your old clothes, face paint, and your best zombie-walking skills, and come join us!
Who knows how many zombies will end up on the streets of Mathildedal…
Mathildedal is part of Salo’s Pumpkin Weeks
